Christina’s Birthday

It was Christina’s 16th birthday, and she was looking forward to seeing her friends. They were meeting at Mama Mia’s, her favourite Italian cafe, for a special birthday lunch. Christina was excited and got to the cafe at exactly the time they had arranged to meet. She looked around for a familiar face, but no one had arrived yet. So she decided to wait outside and stood patiently in the warm afternoon sunshine.

The cafe quickly filled up with customers, but none of them were Christina’s friends. Where are they? She thought. At half-past one, she was still waiting, so she texted her best friend Sophie. Why doesn’t she reply? Christiana asked herself. Then she rang Mary, Tom, and Max, but they didn’t answer either. What is going on? she wondered.

At 2 pm, Christina ambled slowly home, feeling lonely and miserable. Her friends had forgotten her birthday. She got home and unlocked the door. She knew her parents weren’t at home and hated going into an empty house. Then she heard a strange scratching sound. It was coming from the living room. Maybe her dog was looked in the lounge, but why? Nervously she opened the door and looked in. Suddenly all her friends jumped up from behind the sofa and chairs and shouted surprise. Then her mum and dad walked in from the kitchen carrying a birthday cake and treats. Sophie put on some music and they all put on funny party hats. So they hadn’t forgotten and, in the end, it was the best birthday ever.
