Talking in Shades. Using Hedging Language in English
Hedging Inglés in English is the verbal tiptoeing of communication. It’s the “probably,” “possibly,” and “maybe” that add a touch of uncertainty to our statements. Instead of a firm “yes” or “no,” we throw in “probably,” “maybe,” or “could be.” It’s a verbal safety net, keeping things open-ended. So the next time you are asked, “Will you be attending a meeting?” feel free to respond with “I’ll probably be there”.
